Dian Xiao Er

It has been quite some time since I had dinner at Dian Xiao Er. I decided to go there for dinner today with my wife. They are well know for their Roast Duck. Here's what we have ordered:

- Roasted Duck with Ten Wonder Herb

The Ten Wonder Herbs has a sweet herbal taste that goes well with the Roast Duck. The duck is roasted till the skin is nice and crispy. The skin is thin and very fragrant, the meat is also soft and tender. Their Roasted Duck is indeed very good and you must try it yourself to believe.

- Roasted Duck with Ginseng

The Ginseng adds more flavour to the Roast Duck making it more fragrant with a slight tinge of bitterness. The duck is basically the same as the one with Ten Wonder Herbs, only that the sauce that was poured over the duck is different. This is salted while the other is sweet.

- Fish Maw Thick Soup with Canpoy

The Fish Maw Soup is delicious, it is thick and very tasty. If you add vinegar into the soup, it will enhance the flavour, making it more appetising. You can also find ingredients like chicken strips, fish maw, sea cucumber and dried scallops. If you like a thick soup base, you will find this dish to your liking. But remember to eat it while it is hot or it can taste too choying.

- Chinese Spinach in Superior Stock

I find that the Chinese Spinach is pretty normal and can be better if the stock is thicker and tastier. However, I must say that the baby anchovies that were added were crispy and very fragrant. The wolfberries also gave the dish a tinge of sweetness.

- Claypot Bee Hoon with Chinese Wine

The Claypot Bee Hoon with Chinese Wine is delicious. The soup has a strong taste of chinese wine and you can find ingredients like prawns and frog legs that are fresh and succullent. I must also mention the fresh prawn paste found in the prawn head that makes it even sweeter. The bee hoon has absorbed the thick soup base hence making it very tasty. Every mouthful is so satisfying.

Overall, I find that the food is pretty good especially the Roast Duck. For all Roast Duck lovers out there, you can check out this place if you have not.

Seng Heng Braised Duck

I was at Jurong West food Centre for lunch today. I had craving for duck rice and decided to order from this stall called Seng Heng Braised Duck. I ordered a plate of Braised Duck Rice for S$3.00. The Braised Duck is tender and has absorbed the rich flavour of the braised sauce. Even the skin is fragrant and braised till it's nice and soft. The braised sauce is not too salty and goes well with the rice. This is one of the better Braised Duck Rice I have tasted. You can check it out if you are around the area.

Red Lacquer Penang Peranakan

There are countless eataries at Jurong Point but one of the few that I will patronise is Red Lacquer Penang Peranakan Restaurant. This place serves pretty good Penang Food and you don't have to travel all the way to Penang to try out the popular dishes. Here's what I have ordered:

- Penang Char Kway Teow

The Penang Char Kway Teow is delicious, the kway teow is fragrant and tasty. The kway teow is tasty even on it's own. The kway teow is slightly charred and you can find ingredients like  prawns, chinese sausages, cockles, eggs and beansprouts. This is their signature dish and it is and highly recommended.

- Penang Hokkien Prawn Bee Hoon Soup

The Penang Hokkien Prawn Bee Hoon Soup is also delicious, the soup is thick and has a rich prawny taste with a tinge of sweetness. The thick soup base goes well with the bee hoon. You can find ingredients like prawns, hard boiled egg, kang kong, bean sprouts and sliced pork. The dish is garnished with fried spring onions hence making it more fragrant.

- Penang Assam Laksa

The Penang Assam Laksa is very appetising, you can find ingredients like chopped onions, pineapple cubes, sliced cucumber and sliced chilli. I find that their Assam Laksa gravy can be thicker with more sardine fish. If you are looking for something to enhance your appetite, you can order this dish.

The total bill was S$25.00. Overall, I find that the food is pretty good and if you are craving for Penang Food you can check out this place if you are around the area.

Lai Lai Kitchen (来来小厨)

I was at Jurong Point for lunch today. I decided to head down to this stall called Lai Lai Kitchen to have a plate of Soya Sauce Chicken Rice with Char Siew. I ordered a plate of Soya Sauce Chicken Rice with Char Siew for S$6.00. The soya sauce chicken was fragrant and tender, the braised sauce that poured over the rice adds more flavour to the rice and chicken. Don't forget to add the sambal chilli sauce, it goes very well with the rice and chicken. I find that the char siew is well marinated and can be a little more charred to make it even more fragrant. Overall, I find that the food served by this stall is pretty good, definitely above average. You can give it a try if you are around the area.

Kok Kee Wanton Noodles

I was at Jurong West Food Centre for breakfast today. I had craving for Wantan Mee at this stall called Kok Kee Wantan Noodles. This is my all time favourite Wantan Mee which has a very traditional taste. You may be thinking that this name sounds very familar and yes, you are right, they have another outlet at Lavender Food Court. You will always see a long queue at this stall but they are very quick with the orders. I ordered a plate of Wantan Mee for S$2.50. They use egg noodles for their Wantan Mee giving it a very traditional taste that I find it very hard to find nowadays. The chilli sauce that goes with the noodles makes it even tastier. Their char siew is lean and very well marinated with the char siew sauce making the meat nice and sweet. However, I find that their wantan can be better if they fill it with more meat or a little crispy flat fish to give it more flavour and the wholesome texture. Overall, this is one of the best Wantan Mee I have tasted.

Chinatown Claypot Rice

Today's weather is so cooling after the rain. I decided to eat something piping hot to warm my stomach. While I was thinking of what to eat, I noticed alot of people eating Claypot Rice. Without further delay, I ordered the Claypot Rice. It sure was a long wait of about 20 minutes due to the popular demand. When the claypot was served, I was starving. I could smell the aroma of the salted fish coming from the claypot. The black sauce that was poured on top of the rice adds flavour to the rice as well as the chicken when you stir to make the sauce spread evenly. The ingredients in the claypot are chicken, salted fish and chinese sausages. The chicken was very tender, making it a good blend when you are eating it with the rice. I think it will taste better if they add braised mushrooms.  The belachan chilli is also very appetising, a little sour and spicy, making the rice and chicken even tastier. For chilli lovers, you will love the spiciness. It's definitely one of the better claypot rice that I have tasted.
